Welcome! This is a website that everyone can build together. It's easy!

Table Of Contents Talk HomeThis is a featured page

This is a place to gather thoughts relating to management of professional reading.

Includes
  • all the various ways people can get professional reading alerts other than physically picking up the latest print issue.
  • pros and cons of the various methods
  • problems with the methods
  • just to keep track of all the options
  • sort out the options available from vendors
  • could branch out into management of "vertical files" or citation management, probably suitable for other wikis.

Goal
Goal is to come up with a usable method of helping my users manage their own personal reading. I currently route the actual new issue of the magazine and that is not working.

Suggestions
We use a number of different methods for this. One method is alerting the patrons if their favorite journals have RSS or email table of contents services. They can select the journals for which they'd like alerts.

Another method we use for our "fussier" patrons is to have the emailed TOC's sent to the library mailbox - we keep a list of patrons and journal titles to forward to them. It's time consuming and needs maintenance.
